Twelve Nights of Marvel

Celebrate the advent of the holidays with a 12-night series of marvel and wonderment-filled moments at MacArthur Place. Each night reveals a different experience that piques the curiosity, awakens the senses and connects the community. The holiday festivities kick off on Friday, November 29 as the property’s iconic buildings and trees are illuminated for the season, and we welcome guests for a convivial open house. The 12-night series continues every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a unique and enchanting experience each evening, culminating in a grand finale on Sunday, December 22 with an aerialist performing from great heights and the lighting of the menorah. We welcome hotel guests and the local community to experience these marvelous festivities. All events are open to the public, and free of charge.  

Holiday Lighting & Open House
Friday, November 29, 5-7 pm

Join us at the front of the lobby to watch as the property facade, MacArthur sign and iconic trees are illuminated at 5:30pm. Sip on spiced apple cider and mulled wine while noshing on holiday cookies. Stroll into The Bar at MacArthur to experience the launch of the Holiday Cocktail capsule paired with complimentary bites from the kitchen.

Tarot Card Reader & Magician
Saturday, November 30, 5-7 pm

Experience tarot reader, Kristine Gorman of Tarot Art & Tattoo, in the private dining room of Layla. Kristine uses her sacred Tarot cards as a tool to tap into an infinite place where all messages dwell. Her divinatory skills are drawn from the universe and all light centered knowledge.

When your future has been laid out in cards, watch magician Tobias and the Traveling Spectacularperform in the lobby and The Bar. Tobias creates a surrealist vaudeville experience inspired by the dreams and dust of a bygone age.

Luxe Hot Chocolate & Affogato Cart
Sunday, December 1, 5-7 pm

Indulge in the warming flavors of the holiday season with luxurious hot chocolate. Find an extravagant cart with an enchanting array of toppings, candy canes, colorful straws, spoons and festive garnishes to awaken your childlike spirit. Add a dollop of Straus soft serve ice cream from our new ice cream machine to create a decadent affogato. Take your Italian treat on a stroll through the grounds to see the twinkling lights or cozy up in a seat by the firepits to gaze at the starry Sonoma sky.

Sonoma Springs Brewery & Hot Pretzels
Friday, December 6, 5-7pm

Taste seasonal beers from Sonoma Springs Brewery paired with warm soft pretzels and cheesy dip from our kitchen. The crew at Sonoma Springs Brewery have been hand-crafting California ales, German style beers, and barrel aged brews around the corner from MacArthur Place since 2008. Taste their seasonal creations with a warm soft pretzel and cheese dip from the Layla culinary elves.

Oyster Bar
Saturday, December 7, 5-7pm

As a nod to our coastal Sonoma County neighbors, watch as the Layla culinary team shucks oysters for your slurping pleasure. explained in How to Eat Raw Oysters in Public with Confidence the best way is to “bring the oyster shell to the lip of your mouth, tip slightly, and enjoy… An oyster is meant to be savored. Rather than swallowing whole, I recommend biting into the oyster so the full flavor profile can be experienced.”

Christmas Carolers
Sunday, December 8, 5-8 pm

Comfort and Joy Carolers, dressed in traditional Victorian costumes, will sing the songs of Christmas while roaming throughout MacArthur Place. Comfort & Joy is an a cappella group comprised of two ladies and two gentlemen. Your holiday favorites – traditional and popular – will be sung unaccompanied in beautiful four-part harmony. Experience their cheery sound while dining at Layla or The Bar at MacArthur.

Hanson Vodka Pop-up
Friday, December 13, 5-7 pm

What spreads holiday cheer more than vodka? A family that creates vodka together. On Friday, December 13th, with 12 days until Christmas, we will host a Hanson Vodka tasting with their organic, grape-based, gluten-free and non-GMO vodka along with a special holiday cocktail.  Hanson Vodka is local to Sonoma and a family affair along with their winery partners, together creating vodka from wine.

Santa Claus & Helper
Saturday, December 14, 2-4 pm

The one and only Santa (real beard and all!) along with his favorite elf helper will take center stage in the lobby of MacArthur Place on Saturday afternoon. Come and whisper your holiday wishes to Father Christmas, and get your photo taken, you will then have eleven days to ensure your spot on the nice list.

Fondue Party!
Sunday, December 15, 5-7 pm

What holiday celebration – especially one in the culinary mecca of Sonoma – is complete without cheese? Join us for cheese, cheese and more delicious local cheese including an interactive fondue station. For extra points, wear your ugly holiday Christmas sweater – we’re handing out prizes for those donning the best (and we DO mean ugliest!) sweaters.

A Capella Group
Friday, December 20, 5-7 pm

Take Flight, an award-winning vocal group, takes our 12 Nights of Marvel series to new heights with creative performances of hit songs from a wide array of genres. This 5-member acapella group, recently voted “Best Napa Valley Band” of 2017, delivers smooth, tight harmonies and upbeat music to boost your holiday cheer.

Whiskey & Cigars
Saturday, December 21, 5-7 pm

Prohibition Spirits will bring their Travel Bar, a vintage trailer restored into a craft cocktail bar called the “Trav-L-Bar” to the Coach House. With the firepit as a backdrop, enjoy bourbon and cigars from a local craft distillery that produces wine country-inspired small batch artisanal spirits.

Aerialist & Menorah Lighting
Sunday, December 22, 5-7 pm

In culmination of our Twelve Nights of Marvel, watch from the front drive as an aerialist performs from a 30’ crane. Tobias and the Traveling Spectacular will return to bring the final moment of wonderment to connect our Sonoma community with awe and inspiration for the holiday season.

As the first night of Hanukkah, following the aerialist performance, we invite you inside to experience the lighting of our menorah in the Lobby.

The Twelve Nights of Marvel have been created to bring the spirit of the season alive for MacArthur guests, Sonoma locals, and California visitors. Each night of the festivities all are invited to the following:

  • Spiced cider, mulled wine, and cookies in the lobby from 5-7 pm
  • Chef’s seasonal appetizer in The Bar from 5-7 pm
