New Estate Guestrooms
The Estate Guestrooms at MacArthur Place are housed within a Shared Cottage and feature one king size bed and sitting area with a private patio and outdoor shower.
From the moment you step onto the grounds, there is a sense of magic and discovery.
Lush gardens, historic farm buildings, winding paths, secret nooks. The attention to detail is amazing without ever becoming manicured or stiff. Indoor, outdoor, and transition areas connect seamlessly. You flow across the different spaces. Nothing is sealed off, siloed, or isolated.
There is a sense of history that emerges here. Not through plaques, themed decor, or old time pictures, but from the sensory details of the experience itself. Gardens that evoke its days as a working farm and family estate. Touches of iron, copper, wood, and other industrial farm materials. Exposed barn beams. Shady porches. Picket fences. We are not fabricating history. We are revealing it.
Make no mistake: this is a contemporary luxury experience. But our approach is different: More handcrafted. More sensory. More honest. We cut against the grain of the glossy, expected conventions of typical “executive hospitality.” We put a fresh, elevated spin on classic Sonoma farmhouse style. We aren’t about easy flash or glossy displays. We’re about ensuring every moment, every material, and every touchpoint is absolutely premium, natural, and considered.
People travel to Sonoma to indulge in sensory experiences that allow them to reconnect – with themselves, with nature, and with each other. At MacArthur Place, we are delivering against this desire like no other property: Impeccable, serene rooms with soothing textures, natural materials, and hightouch finishes. Stunning bathrooms with open-air outdoor showers. Dining experiences that draw from the natural abundance of Sonoma and our property. Natural landscaping, beautiful green spaces, and an airy spa & pool integrated into the garden grounds. In our culture of tech overload and “notification anxiety,” this is a place that understands how natural, honest, hand-crafted experiences have become the ultimate luxury.
Renovation and Property Design
Under new ownership, the 64-room property is undergoing extensive work to restore and enhance the site’s original farmhouse charm. In January of 2019, we will unveil newly-refurbished architecture, landscaping, technology, signage and branding as well as a wholly-reimagined food and beverage program consisting of three beautiful new outlets, all under the expert direction of lauded Executive Chef, Cole Dickinson, who hails from 3 Michelin-star restaurants. Culinary offerings include Layla, an inspired Mediterranean fine dining experience. The Bar at MacArthur, classic American fare and craft cocktails, and The Porch, an open-air coffee shop and all-day stockhouse.
As part of the property-wide renovation, a complete overhaul of the all property technology is under way—Both consumer and non-consumer facing pieces of hardware and software will be totally reimagined for the modern traveler. The upgrade will touch every corner of the property, including upgraded fiber with independent routers in each building in order to provide the fastest wifi commercially available, property wide; an iRiS guest experience platform that will provide guests with on-demand features like room service, spa and restaurant reservations from anywhere on property; implementation of state-of-the art A/V systems in all public spaces; upgrades of guest TV platform to Sonifi, giving access to a variety of content and platforms including DirecTV, Netflix, Hulu and others.
Food and Beverage
In partnership with acclaimed chef, author and television host Geoffrey Zakarian’s Zakarian Hospitality, MacArthur Place introduces a fully reimagined food and beverage program: Layla, a contemporary and elevated Mediterranean restaurant; The Bar at MacArthur, a warm and inviting bar-lounge that will serve a curated selection of cocktails, beers and an easy all-day menu; and The Porch, a communal coffee, stock house and marketplace. Expect contemporary, elevated dining, creative cocktails and a communal coffee and marketplace perfect for picking up a “taste of Sonoma.”
Executive Chef Cole Dickinson
Award-winning Chef Cole Dickinson will serve as executive chef, overseeing all food and beverage operations including Layla, The Bar at MacArthur, The Porch, weddings and social events, poolside dining, and the hotel’s in-room dining program.
Chef Cole joins MacArthur Place from Acacia House at the Forbes 4-star Las Alcobas Resort in Napa Valley, which was recently named one of the Bay Area’s best 100 restaurants by the San Francisco Chronicle. As a protégée of Chef Michael Voltaggio, Chef Dickenson worked first at Charlie Palmer’s Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg followed by Voltaggio’s Hemisphere at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and then at The Bazaar by José Andrés in Beverly Hills. His professional experience also includes work with some of the world’s most highly lauded chefs and restaurants including Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck in London; Laurent Gras’ 3 Michelin star l2o in Chicago and with Wolfgang Puck in Hollywood. Dickinson has competed in and won Food Network’s “Chopped” and has been recognized as a StarChefs “Los Angeles Rising Star Chef,” an Eater “Young Guns” winner, and has also been named one of Zagat’s “30 Under 30.”
3 Meal Restaurant
Layla will bring a modern Mediterranean aesthetic to Sonoma. A bright, open space is complemented by custom chairs and pendants, and an inspired menu showcases fresh, healthy options in addition to more indulgent fare.
The Bar at MacArthur
Lounge and Bar
The Bar at MacArthur, with rich oak wood floors and polished plaster walls in a dark green finish under rough hewn beams and custom light fixtures, invites guests in for an afternoon or evening cocktail and conversation.
An effortless, all-day “stock house” style coffee bar and marketplace, inspired by the pastoral charm of Sonoma and the estate pedigree of MacArthur Place including screen printed ceramic tiles from Artist Marianne Smink of Smink Thing Studio.
