Artist Talk with Brian Merriam | Thursday May 13, 5pm

We welcome Los Angeles-based landscape photographer, Brian Merriam, to MacArthur Place as part of our monthly artist-in-residence series in partnership with Tappan Collective. Ethereal and existential in their pursuit, Brian’s photographs document the raw natural beauty of the hinterlands of America and beyond. During his time in Sonoma, Brian will photograph the natural beauty of our local landscape to create a site-specific piece for our property’s art collection.

Brian will also lead an interactive in-person talk about his practice, In Search of Universal Principles in Nature. He writes, “Incorporating scales of time, physical size, natural patterns and archetypal ideas into my work to more or less help me better understand my place in the universe.” Through a series of photographs and video and interactive dialog with guest host, poet Kai Carlson-Wee, Brian will share his travel experiences and creative process behind his acclaimed photographic works.

This creative workshop will be paired with natural wines from local producer, Las Jaras Wines.
